Department of Philosophy
Master's Degree
The Department of Philosophy has two programs of study:
- Philosophy
- Bioethics
Tracks
Two tracks are available:
Track A – includes research and thesis submission.
Track B – not research-based.
Admission requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in philosophy. Applicants without an undergraduate major in philosophy, if admitted, must make up relevant undergraduate material. These will be determined on an individual basis.
- A minimum undergraduate grade point average of 76.
PhD
Areas of specialization
Aesthetics, ethics, bioethics, epistemology, metaphysics, political philosophy, philosophy of mind, philosophy of science, philosophy of language, history of philosophy, phenomenology, philosophy of law, philosophy of biology, feminist philosophy, existentialism, pragmatism and continental philosophy.
Academic requirements
- Departmental colloquium attendance.
- Required courses subject to advisor and departmental committee chair decision (for example, Research Methods).
- The departmental committee chair or advisor are authorized to mandate an additional foreign language.
- Additional required courses (English and Jewish studies) as specified in the School of Graduate Studies information handbook.
