Application guidelines

The application process includes payment of the application submission fee. Application submission fees will not be refunded, neither to students who are declined admission nor to those who have withdrawn their application.

  1. The application process for PhD programs is to be carried out online.
  1. Applicants will be notified that their forms and documents have been received; this acknowledgment is not to be construed as admission to the program.

  2. Only official, original documents, authorized and stamped by the issuing institution of the diploma or certification will be accepted. Application documents sent via email by the institution at which the applicant completed their prior degree directly to the School of Graduate Studies, shall be considered, in most cases, as original, official documents.

Alternatively, photocopies of documents may be certified by the university when the original and copy are presented together. Copies certified by an attorney or documents sent by fax or email will not be accepted.

  • This document certification process whereby the original and the copy are presented, is available at the School of Graduate Studies office, at the department or at the Services and Recruitment Center in the Jewish Heritage area, Building 502/19 near the Stern Building. Applicants who have not submitted all required material will receive a notice that their file has been opened, including a list of missing documents. The School of Graduate Studies will wait for the remainder of the material for up to two months or until the end of the application window (the earlier of the two). If the documents are not submitted within that time frame, the application will be dropped and the material submitted will be returned to the applicant upon request. Application fees will not be refunded.

  • Applicants whose applications were dropped due to missing material, may reapply after submitting all required documents. Application fees will be incurred in such a case, just like from new applicants.

. 4.  Graduates of universities and institutions in foreign countries must present the following:

  • English language diplomas and transcripts issued by the educational institution.
  • Grade ranking within the institutions where prior degrees were awarded.
  • If English language documents are not available, they documents must be submitted in their original language alongside an English translation, notarized to attest to the accuracy of the translation.

 5.   Only after all necessary documents have been received will the School of Graduate Studies request a recommendation and evaluation from the department. Admission to the PhD program is dependent upon approval of the permanent academic committee of the School of Graduate Studies which considers the candidacy of all applicants.  After a decision has been made, the applicant is notified via email; the decision may also be viewed on the In-Bar portal of the Bar-Ilan website.
