Master’s degree admission criteria
- Applicants must have a bachelor's degree from a recognized academic institution with a minimum grade point average of 76. Most departments require a higher average. The grade point average cutoff may be higher depending on the number of applicants and their record.
- In most cases, master’s degree studies shall be in the discipline taken at the undergraduate level. Admission to another discipline usually incurs background completion.
- The institution at which the student studied previously must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education (CHE) if it was an Israeli institution. If the institution is in a foreign country, it must be recognized by the relevant authorities there. The School of Graduate Studies will not accept applications from students who do not meet this requirement.
- The departmental committee conducts their own evaluation of the applicants and submits their recommendation to the School of Graduate Studies. The departmental committee is entitled to hold entrance exams, interviews, etc. The final decision on admission and determining conditions of their admission lies with the School of Graduate Studies.
- In exceptional cases, in which the departmental committee recommends an applicant who does not meet the departmental admission criteria, the departmental committee is authorized to issue a request to the School of Graduate Studies to admit the student, by providing clearly justified reasons together with supporting documents. A request lacking clearly specified academic justification and supporting material will not be addressed.
- If much time has elapsed since completion of the bachelor's degree, or if applicants studied at an institution in which the scope or content of study are considerably lower than Bar-Ilan University’s requirements, the departmental committee, with approval of the dean of the School of Graduate Studies may impose additional curriculum requirements to complete the missing background.
- The School of Graduate Studies is authorized to require additional courses beyond those established by the department.
- The conditions of admission specified in the letter of acceptance are the ones that are binding.
Bar-Ilan University does not guarantee admission to all applicants even if they meet minimum requirements.
