Language proficiency
Each department shall set foreign language requirements for its own students. The requirements may include one or more foreign languages, at a beginner or advanced level, to be determined by the departmental committee chair and in accordance with research demands.
The department’s requirements regarding foreign languages appears in the information handbook, in the content published by the different departments.
Students studying in a department with a foreign language requirement, and who are required to take English based on their master’s degree English screening test by the English as a Foreign Language unit, must take that in their first year of study.
Students may prove foreign language proficiency by passing a test conducted by their department, if the department does in fact hold such a test and by approval of the departmental committee chair.
These courses do not count toward specialization courses required by students.
The English as a Foreign Language unit holds English courses for master’s degree students whose departments require them to take graduate-level English. For further information and the exemption policy.
English exemptions are valid for 10 years from date granted.
